Little Drummer Boy

Well, it is that time of year again. We have recorded a little song to be enjoyed with a glass of eggnog or Rum, or both mixed together in such and such a way... or some other fancy drink, or an unfancy drink. Or just piece of cake. Or, perhaps with none of the above, but just because it finds you in a good, warm place, or makes you feel good and warm in some way.

Brush Of Hope

Hey all. Just wanted to say that Brush of Hope raised almost $24,000 this year. Alex Lifeson's painting alone raised almost a 3rd of the grand total. Rush! I was pleased to see the minor bidding war that took place over my "Summertime Dude" painting. Well done. Nice to see that "Summertime Dude" gets a place to rest his head & limbs over the winter season [It's cold out and he ain't got no shirt on!]. Just want to thank the generous people who bid on him. Such a good cause. And thanks again to A Brush of Hope for letting us take part!!

In Wintersleep news, we've come to a "looks good on paper and after first few listens" tentative agreement on the sequence. Time will tell. I know, it is pseudo news but I miss your eyes. We will post a sequence, or at the very least, a list of track titles soon on our Tumblr/Facebook/Twitter/AHHHHH-Social Media-I-can't-take-it-anymore pages. That's all for now. Easy on the sweets!! I bought 70 Kit Kats hoping kids in costumes would come by and ask for them, because apparently that's what one is supposed to do in North America on this day when one is at home. Not a single kid. Just this older guy named Aaron. He was a year or two over the allowed trick or treat limit though, so I had to tell him to scram.

Brush Of Hope

Hey. 2 news items in one month. Wow, I think this is a record. Just wanted to say that there is a benefit for the Kidney Foundation of Canada called Brush of Hope. They've asked Canadian artists & public figures of different backgrounds & varieties to create an original piece of art on a canvas, to be auctioned off some time between October 20-30 on Ebay. Paul, reportedly "luckily not a painter by trade," contributed. There are lots of really great paintings by many fine Canadians [Kurt Browning, Alex Lifeson, Leonard Cohen to name a few] that can be previewed on their site or facebook page. A really nice idea. Take a peek if you have time. Thanks Brush of Hope for letting us take part.

Studio Update

Hi people. Sorry it has taken so long since we last wrote. We've been in the studio working on our fifth record, the 3rd with the lovely Tony Doogan and 1st with Dave Fridmann up at Tarbox Studios in Cassadaga New York. Finished up 6 tunes earlier this month & going up for the second & final session in about a week. Soundin' pretty gnarly, which means 'good' [if you aren't down with the out of date lingo]. I'm probably showing my age with the use of that word. I take it back. No, I can't take it back. I shan't. True Colors. That sounds like a good title for the album. No? What is wrong with showing your age anyway? Okay, stop being silly. We have posted a few studio-esque things on Tumblr. There will be much more of that to come. Talk soon.

Daytrotter Session

Hey folks. A couple things.

Back in Winter 2010 [not so far back really] we did a Daytrotter Session. We're pleased to announce that it is available on the Daytrotter site (HERE) as you read these very lines. So, put on your inter-glasses and brew up a pot of coffee or tea or Irish stew, or whatever you like to brew up, if anything, while browsing the internet... & enjoy. Pretty great memory, and the final result sounds pretty neat too, we think.

We just finished up a pretty fun tour of the USA. Thanks to everyone who came out. Highlights: Chris Pennell on the bass guitar. Almost got to hang with Obits in Brooklyn. Saw my sister in Atlanta. Lost 3.6 pounds [which didn't stop a dude in New York from making a point to tell me that I've "gained some serious weight". I have a hunch he worked for Weight Watchers]. Got to play the Tin Roof in Charleston. Raleigh sticks out as a particularly fun show. Black Cat in Washington, Bowery Ballroom in NYC with the Besnard Lakes & Malajube. Allston was a blast too with those same two bands. Anyhoo, lots of cool places. We had a blast. Thanks to everyone for coming out.

In other news, the Northeastern US tour starts very soon (May 3 in Burlington, VT). See the tour section for details, but we're lookin' at you, New York, Brooklyn, Boston, Philadelphia, Raleigh, Washington DC, Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlottesville, and Charleston ;)

New US Tour + Call for Donations for the Victims of the Recent Disaster in Japan

With all the headlines this week a little thread on our site about what we're doing in the upcoming months seems a little silly, but maybe something a little lighter doesn't hurt the brain. I was wanting to post something up linking to the Red Cross website and send some wishes and thoughts and prayers to our friends in Japan at Imperial and other friends & relatives we have living over there right now.

On the topic of friends, my mind drifted to the last tours we had with the lovely Hold Steady and Rah Rah and all the people that came out to those shows to celebrate and enjoy the music. Would like to say thanks to them for the wonderful time we had with them. We will be touring in the USA in May. Check the tour dates for that.

More importantly now though, if you are looking for a good way to help from a distance, you can donate to the Red Cross here.

Masters done and done.

Hey all. Masters done and done. Artwork very close. Olympics!! Just so you know, we don't get to see anything live. Busy bees. In an attempt to make us feel better, Mike's roommate said he paid $50 to go to a Bobsled event in the 80s and that you essentially wait in the snow for 15 minutes and then you see intermittent blurry figures whizzing past you for about 2 minutes, and then that is what you see.. That was the 80s and wasn't a hockey game, but it makes me feel slightly better about not being able to see an actual event. Although he did say that he saw some other pretty amazing things too... I guess Bobsled is not the event I'd really go see live if I had the chance to see any event of my choice. Been watching other events pretty intensely on TV actually. The Biathalon in particular is pretty mind blowing. Ski as fast as you can cross-country and then after about 15 minutes lie down and shoot at a target 50 meters away, and if you miss you have to do another lap. Anyone wonder what these people do before & after the Olympics? I can guess that the CIA & special forces know. Will have some touring updates very soon.

Depending on where you live, a little month of March side project news to hold you over in the meantime-- Contrived will be doing some shows in eastern Canada in March & also in March, Postdata is doing a bit of a sporadic-places-in-Canada tour, if that is a type of tour you can do. Just click on the band name to link to the tour dates part of their respective websites. Thanks so much. Stay tuned!! Hope to see you in BC..

They Shoot Music Don't They?

While in Vienna with Editors and Maccabees last November, the TSMDT team caught up with Wintersleep and filmed a session outside in Simmering. You can see the session with performances of "Miasmal & the Yellow Bellied Freaks" and "Astronaut" on the They Shoot Music website, and on youtube.

Mix complete.

We have finished mixing our fourth album. The order is yet to be determined, even some song titles are TBC. We gave of ourselves a dead-line of the end of next week to decide on which title we are going with. Two options remain and we will let you know ASAP what the header of this record will be.

Mastering will be sorted in February. Very confident that the record will still be out May 18th (17th in UK/EU).

We are thick into the artwork process as well. We are very fortunate to have an artist that we have admired over the past few years named Graeme Patterson on board to do the honors this time around. Very excited by the progress. We are making some great headway and we will show you a preview when we have something together!

Thanks again to Tony Doogan, such a pleasure working with such a force. We feel very lucky to be able to make a fourth album. and in such great company. wow, wow, yay! Thanks to all.
